Denver restaurant Bar Dough is closed temporarily after a break-in over the weekend.
According to Juan Padro, owner of the popular restaurant in the Highland neighborhood, a former employee used the back door code to get in at about 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, then proceeded to smash dishware and bottles of whiskey. The former employee, who Padro says worked at Bar Dough for one day, also used pots and pans to damage the point-of-sale system consoles and shatter the restaurant’s front door.
Padro estimates there was upwards of $350,000 in damage between the POS system, lost revenue, equipment and food inventory. Denver police are still investigating the incident.
“Everything at Bar Dough is fresh, it comes in everyday,” Padro said. “We donated all of that to folks in need, we got about 100 pounds of meat out, tons of produce and dairy. I posted about it on Facebook and some folks came by and picked it up.”
Despite the damage, which Padro called a “first world problem,” he expects Bar Dough will reopen on Thursday.
