Nets star Kyrie Irving was knocked out of Tuesday’s game in Chicago after taking an elbow to the face.
Irving suffered a facial contusion in the third quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the night.
Now it remains to be seen when he will be back.
While leaping for the ball in the third quarter, Irving took an inadvertent elbow from Bulls’ big man Nikola Vucevic, who has always been a noted Net-killer, just not in this way.
After Irving got hit in the face, the 29-year-old guard crumpled to the floor and stayed down. He lay on the floor, flat on his back with his face covered for several minutes.
The All-Star point guard banged his face on the court in clear pain, before eventually being helped up and off the floor. Irving went to the locker room with 10:08 left in the quarter and the Nets up 68-58.
Irving finished with 13 points, all in the first quarter.
Last training camp, Irving had suffered a concussion and missed time. With just three games left in the regular-season – including a home tilt Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs – Irving’s status going forward is up in the air.
His injury comes just as the Nets await the return of James Harden, who has been out with a hamstring injury.
