Jon Moncayola signs 10-year deal
Convincing players to sign new contracts at clubs can be one of the most important yet frustrating aspect of running a club.
Many clubs have suffered losses of huge talents because they were unable to tie down their assets to long-term deals.
One club which has not struggle to do that with one of their most prized players is Spanish team Osasuna.
They have just announced a 10-year new contract for Jon Moncayola.

One might think he may be a very young player but in fact the midfielder has just turned 23.
He has featured 63 times in La Liga since the side’s return to the Spanish top flight scoring 3 goals from a more reserved position on the field.
The club were very pleased with their business which will see Moncayola become one of the cornerstones of the team for years to come.
He was described on the club’s official post as one of their ‘greatest talents.’
With this renewal, Club Atlético Osasuna retains one of the greatest talents Tajonar has given in recent years. In addition, he signs a contractual relationship with him for the next decade, making clear his intention for Jon Moncayola to become one of his franchise players and an emblem for Osasunism.
The deal has its positives and negatives.
Osasuna will benefit the most with a likely fixed salary over the period, assuming there are no milestone changes throughout the deal. The contract significantly protects the player’s value and could deter any club from coming to steal him away.
However, should the player get seriously injured, experience a social issue with the club leading to a breakdown in the relationship or simply diminish in quality, the club would be committed to the payment of his deal for the full 10 years.
Of course any appearance related bonuses may protect the club in some way but the commitment is still very significant.
