NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A woman was shot on City Island while on the job.
Police say the suspect is in custody after he was struck by a car.

It happened on City Island Avenue at City Island Road at around 12:30 p.m.
CBS2’s Jenna DeAngelis reported the woman, 52, was working at a constructions site as a flagger for traffic control.
Sources tell CBS2 the suspect, a 67-year-old ex-boyfriend, exchanged words with her and shot her. It’s not clear what was said.
The shooter allegedly tried to escape the scene on a bike.

The victim’s 58-year-old boyfriend, who was also working at the construction site, witnessed the shooting and chased after the suspect with his car, striking him as he tried to get away on his bike, DeAngelis reported.
At this time, it doesn’t appear the boyfriend will be facing criminal charges. Charges, however, are pending for the suspect.
One man said the victim has been a friendly face there for weeks.
A gun was recovered on the scene here. Police are looking into a motive for the shooting, but calling it a domestic murder.
